Newcomers Helpdesk

As a newcomer, setting up life in Saskatchewan and Canada can be very stressful and chaotic (Everyone has been through this when they first arrived!). There are many things to do and most of the times we don't know where to begin. The following checklist can serve as a guideline to getting all the major bases covered!

Before Arriving in Saskatchewan

  • Book Hotel / Airbnb for at least 1-2 weeks
  • Protect your COPR (plastic cover - not laminated)
  • Get active credit card / debit card from home country
  • Declare all goods being transported to Canada at customs

After reaching Saskatchewan

  • Get phone number (Sasktel, Bell, etc.)
  • New Immigrant Bank Account (RBC, TD, Scotia)
  • SIN for self and family (at Service Canada)
  • Visit Regina Open Door Society (RODS) - they will provide form for CCB
  • Get ICT Number (mainly required for skilled jobs)

Making your home & settling down

  • Rent House / Apartment
  • Get Sask ID (need 2 address proofs)
  • Enrol for Driving License (Theory test & road test)
  • Update resume as per Canadian market
  • Pay bills & rent on schedule to maintain and build-up a good credit score
